Jaded had a lot of potential that it didn't live up to. I don't think Powers' writing was bad overall but I felt the characters and plots were underdeveloped. Courtney was formal to the point of being stilted and I couldn't bring myself to feel any empathy for her. Jade was cute but that's all that can be said for her and the love subplot with Lauren felt convenient and forced. The secondary characters were flat, tired, cliches with no hint of roundness to redeem them. Some degree of predictability is expected in this genre but the warm, amusing moments and dimensional characters were missing, leaving no compelling aspect to this disappointing story.Product details

Courtney Wilhelm is a high flying attorney. She has always had her life planned out carefully, until a phone call changes everything. Courtney's estranged sister Marissa had died from cancer a few weeks earlier. So why was Courtney getting a call from children's services? Courtney is stunned to find that she has been made responsible for six year old Jade, Marissa's daughter. She hadn't even known Marissa had a daughter. Thus begins a struggle for Courtney to become a parent and continue with her demanding time consuming job. When Courtney enrols Jade in school, she meets Lauren McCallum, Jade's teacher and is attracted to her. Suddenly her life plan is spinning in yet another direction. Will Courtney allow these changes to take place to enable her to have a family life with Jade and Lauren or will she cling to her mapped out life plan?
I enjoyed the story line immensely and I would have liked it to have been a bit longer.
Courtney Wilhelm is a high powered acquisitions lawyer on the fast track to partner in her firm. She has her life completely planned and there's no room in her schedule for a permanent relationship. Everything spins out of control when she learns that the deceased sister she was estranged from left behind a small daughter named Jade and Courtney is to be her guardian. In just a day she goes from being someone who knows nothing about children to being the sole provider for a six year old she's never met and it turns her carefully ordered world upside down. When she enrolls Jade in her old school, Courtney finds support in Jade's teacher Lauren McCallum. Not only does Lauren understand children, but she triggers emotions in Courtney that she thought were long dead. Courtney will have to decide which is more important, her career or the fullness that has been brought to her life by a child and a woman she loves.
This was an interesting story to read because the topic was different, but plausible. Watching Courtney try to cope with a child entering her life gave the book a different perspective. So often in books the children are already in place and a given entity. Courtney's struggle to decide whether or not she is the best person to raise Jade is something to which the reader can relate. Things go perhaps a little too easily for someone who is portrayed as so inexperienced and the relationship develops between the women very quickly. Also, despite what Lauren says in the book, most schools would have a problem with a teacher being involved in a personal relationship with one of her student's guardians. Lengthening the book a little would have allowed more time to deal with these issues in a more realistic manner. Those are minor drawbacks to the story however.
Overall Jaded is a good story and is well told. It's well worth spending a few hours with.
I was engaged with the story the whole way through. It would have been nice to have a little section where Lauren and Courtney had some uninterrupted passion although not sure where you would put it. I think the book would be good for anyone who embraces all of life and love.
I didnd't think at first I was going to like this book but I read the whole thing without putting it down. I laughed and cried, it was well written and tugged at your heart strings more then once!!
The writing is fluid and enchanting, and the book was enjoyable. Great consistency on establishing mood and being steamy only where appropriate. Some of the characters and situations were unrelatable, read stiff, couldn't decide if it was characteristic or forcing specific situations; but overall a very good book.
This was a cute warm and fuzzy type book I loved it! The characters where fun, loving, caring, and had depth. It was nice to read a book and see no writing errors. It's always fun to see two people from different backgrounds come together.
This is my first book from this writer,but,what a book,if you like children,and girls,just buy this,it's full of emotions,a young woman,a father who always seems to get,what he demands or wants,a mother,who's life is only filled with doing nothing,that means jumping from parties,to
vacations,and leaving the rest behind.
There are simply books in my opinion,that from reading just a few sentences,you already know,that it's great,well,this one is even better,from the first sentence,I immediately got a connection,with the persons from the first page on,so,it wasn't easy to put it down at all,there's only one
thing here,that was also brought up,by one of the other reviewers here,it's far to short,not that it is ending bad,but I want to know so much more,how their lives would go own,that's the only little disappointment but,Please,don't let this keep you,from not buying this fantastic book!
Do yourself a favor treat yourself,and I hope you will become like me,falling for a amazing and fantastic new author,I can't wait for more books from this writer!
